MelanieChat is a private client for AI services. The app itself collects no analytics data, contains no tracking and no advertising, and requires no registration. This policy describes which data is processed when downloading, when checking the licence and when using the app.
All chats, profiles and settings are stored exclusively locally on your device in the app's internal storage. API keys are encrypted with the Android Keystore (AES/GCM, hardware-bound). This data is never transmitted to the developer.
To activate the Pro unlock and to verify the trial period, the app transmits to the licence server on melaniechat.eu only: your licence key, an anonymous device identifier generated by the app itself (SHA-256 hash of a random identifier — not the IMEI or any other device identity), and the time of the request. No chat content, name, email address or phone number is transmitted. The licence database stores key, device hash and timestamp; an IP address is not stored in the licence record. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of a contract). Raw server logs (including IP) are kept for a maximum of 7 days and then deleted.
If you enter a message, it is transmitted to the AI provider you selected (e.g. OpenRouter, OpenAI, Google Gemini, xAI or a server you configured yourself). The privacy terms of that provider apply. With local models on your device or in your home network, no text leaves your device or your network.
— Web search: the search term is transmitted to DuckDuckGo or Bing.
— Wikipedia: the search term is transmitted to wikimedia.org.
— YouTube analysis: the video ID is transmitted to youtube.com.
— Dictation: uses the device's Android speech recognition.
— On-device model download: fetches the model file from huggingface.co (your IP is visible to that CDN operator).
If you order a Pro key or write to support, I process your email address and your message exclusively to handle the request or to perform the contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). For bank transfer payments, the data required for the invoice is stored; the statutory retention period under commercial law is 10 years. You may request deletion at any time unless a retention obligation applies.
When you download the app through an app store or download platform (e.g. APKPure, Aptoide), that provider processes technically necessary data (IP address, device and download information) under its own responsibility. When you pay by card, the payment service provider Stripe Payments Europe Ltd. processes the payment; payment and invoice data (name, email, amount, card data) is transmitted to Stripe for that purpose. We receive name, email address, amount and payment status from Stripe — never complete card data. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (contract) and Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR (tax retention).
— Internet: connection to the AI servers you configured and to the licence server.
— Microphone: only while dictation is active; no background recording.
— Photos/media: only to attach images to chats.
You have the right to information, rectification, erasure and restriction of the processing of your data, as well as the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. For matters concerning the licence server (e.g. deletion of your licence record): support@melaniechat.eu. All data stored locally by the app can be deleted entirely at any time by uninstalling it.
